CIAA
On Tuesday, February 25, the CIAA Basketball tournament returns one more me to Charlo e,
North Carolina. The Central Intercollegiate Athle c Associa on (CIAA) was founded in 1912 as
the Colored Intercollegiate Athle c Associa on; adop ng its current name in December 1950.
The CIAA is in Division II and represents 13 ins tu ons from Pennsylvania to South Carolina.
CIAA Alumni, basketball fans and partygoers, converge for the na on's biggest Black athle c
collegiate event. This year ends Queen City's exci ng 15 year run as host city. Since 2005, the
tournament in Charlo e has grown expedi ously reaching over 150,000 fans a ending annu-
ally.
Tournament games are played at Bojangles' Coliseum from Tuesday, February 25 - Wednesday,
February 26. Games will be played at Spectrum Center, Thursday, February 27 - Saturday, Feb-
ruary 29. Tournament ckets are available at

In 2021, the tournament will move to Bal more for the first me since 1951 and will serve as
official host city from 2021-2023. This five day event will be a super-economic boost for our
city; tapping into a valuable African American travel and tourism industry that is currently
undeserved here. A rac ng African-Americans from across the na on, CIAA will posi vely
change the face and a tude towards African American entertainment and support of small
Black businesses in Bal more.
