member hearing my friend screaming out 'Hometown we did it' I felt like this is unbelievable, somebody from the hood in BMore just won a GLOBAL spin award. We don't make it out of the hood, unless you play basketball or a sport. Not DJing, it's unheard of. I thanked God for keeping me around, I thanked my wife and my son. I say this award meant the most because when you're congratulated by the people who party with you and your friends and family it's big. But when you're congratulated by peers and people you grew up listening to and look up to, wow. These people saying QuickSilva this is your year. That's big. I can't even explain that. My manager said you know what you're not a local DJ anymore. That's crazy to me, because to me I'm no different than other DJs that started in Baltimore. You have legends in this room. Grand Master Flash, Kid Capri, legends of Hip Hop. They think this highly of ME?" Somebody from the hood in BMore just won After accepting the award, being able to breathe and compose himself, the first call Quick made was to his number one supporter and cheerleader, his wife, Mrs. Ashley Silva. "Baby, you're not going to believe this, I won! She started screaming!!! 'I'm so proud of you'" QuickSilva is now a household name. He's on a syndicated radio show in the morning, and on the evening ride in one of the biggest cities in America, daily. "I travel four or five times a month. My manager and I still trip. We can't believe that people in Charlotte know who I am. People in Miami, people in New York know who I am. That's a dream! Now, the dream is real. I really DJ in New York once a week. These are things a kid from East Baltimore dreamed of. Travel the world to get paid to do something you'd do for free anyway because you love it! It's humbling. It's a blessing. I think of all I had to go through to get to where I am, somehow, I made it." So what was it? How did QuickSilva make it? THE INSPIRATION "I lost my parents at a young age, Mom at ten and Dad at 18. Before, I had to impress my parents. I couldn't give up because I couldn't let them down. I couldn't let myself down. Once I got married, everything is for my family. It makes you work harder when you have a family. Now that I have a wife and a son and daughter, everything positive I do affects them. They get to do things that growing up I couldn't, because my parents didn't have the money." BEHIND EVERY GREAT MAN With a schedule like QuickSilva's it leaves him running like crazy. He's on the radio every day and in the club every night. He has loads of fans and supporters, it's enough to boost any man's ego. But at home, is where he gets brought back down to size. "My wife is so supportive. The kids and the house are well taken care of. She helps and motivates me all while running her company, IAmSuperGorge.com. I don't know how she does it all. I don't care how big I get, she always looks at me as the same guy she met more than 10 years ago. She keeps me grounded because she doesn't 'QuickSilva' me. To be on tv one minute and then come home to, 'Baby take the trash out and change the diaper genie when u get back in' is humbling. We don't have maids or anything like that. My grandmom and my brothers, they keep me in that space where I can be Rico sometimes… The guy before QuickSilva. HARDWORK. DEDICATION.CONSISTENCY While many people struggle to get through a 40 hour work week, look forward to lunch breaks and happy hours. QuickSilva doesn't know what any of those things are. He's what his manager calls a machine. He will be on the radio at 8am, hop on a train to NY to DJ 106 and Park, come back to be on WKYS, DJ a party in DC until 3am and be right back up at 7am to take his son to school. He works days like that, straight, no sleep, no complaints. Just his motto. "Even with the level of success I have, I'm not lazy. I like work. That's what I like to do. My wife does get a little irritated sometimes but it's gotten me to the place I'm at. I can wake up today and plan a vacation Wednesday and leave Friday. Nobody can say Quick just got lucky and got on or got hot... I work!" He will work himself to the point where his body will tell him it's time to rest. He won't sleep for 20 hours for three days straight. At CIAA, he did 9 parties in three days. The reason was simple."If I didn't do it, somebody else would have." After that he was able to come home and take two days off. "Having success means nothing if you're not healthy. I stayed off and stayed with my family for two days straight. It means a lot to me when I can do nothing, stay home and watch reruns of Good Times and The Wire. Those are the times that I live for." NO SUBSTITUTE FOR HARD WORK In the era of social media, people don't believe it unless they see it. The life of a DJ looks fabulous. He's always at the hottest events, taking pictures with celebrities and pouring Ciroc! But for every two minutes of glamour, there are eight hours of hard work.
