ARTSCAPE RETURNS FOR 35th YEAR Explore What's Out There at America's M ayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Bal more Office of Promo on & The Arts announce the de- tails for the 35th annual Artscape, America's largest free arts fes val. Artscape returns to Bal more on Friday, July 15 and Saturday, July 16 from 11am to 9pm and Sunday, July 17 from 11am to 8pm on Mount Royal Avenue and North Charles Street. The theme for this year's Artscape is "Space: Explore What's Out There," which is incorporated throughout the fes val's visual and performing arts programming. The 2016 fes val is headlined by Wyclef Jean on Friday, July 15 at 7:30pm, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones on Satur- day, July 16 at 7:30pm and the Legendary Burning Spear on Sunday, July 17 at 6:30pm on the BGE Main Stage at the Maryland Ins tute College of Art. The fes val theme of space is a star ng point for interpreta on, tangible, literal and metaphorical, and spans across all disciplines. The theme is also a nod to the vast STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathema cs)-related organiza ons and businesses within the Bal more Metropolitan region and to pop culture's current fascina on with all things intergalac c. The fes val features six space-related large-scale art installa ons: ART/HAB, a space age habitat housed in three geodesic domes, Celes al Light – Act 1. Sun and Act 2. Moon, two large-scale sculptural elements that measure 20 feet in height and feature performance art; Crater!, a fic onal meteor crash site-turned alterna ve art space; Moloch's Ins tute for Extranormal Research that explores "the truth about alien visitors to planet earth;" Space Place, consis ng of illuminated inflatable planets and the sun; and the The Mother Ship Connec on, an exhibit of performance art featuring a model mother ship. Fes valgoers will be able to explore the physical, relatable distance of space travel with "The Grand Tour," a model "solar system" of planets on Charles Street. New for 2016, Artscape hosts "Prince Dance Party – Party Like It's 1999 AGAIN!," a tribute to Prince with DJs and "Bmore Does Bowie," a tribute to David Bowie with bands during Artscape A er Hours presented by Or- derUp at the Johns Hopkins University Sta on North Stage on Friday and Saturday from 9-11pm, respec vely. Artscape is excited to offer free events and programming at Motor House (120 West North Avenue) this year, including a performance of Dreamgirls Friday, July 15 at 7:30pm. Also new this year, Artscape introduces Kidscape Academy, a demonstra on tent at Kidscape featuring STEAM- related educa on and entertainment for youth with programming from the Space Telescope Science Ins tute and other organiza ons. Artscape's food and beverage program is more local and sustainable than ever with 100% of food vendors hailing from Maryland and a fes val-wide ban on Styrofoam materials. Artscape is proud to announce a partnership with Accessible Fes vals for 2016 to ensure Artscape is a fully accessible event for all fes valgoers, regardless of ability.
