Dearly Beloved,
It's a Saturday night, I just sent an instagram
DM (direct message) to my friend a Homicide
detective. I needed to know, sigh, our latest
statistics; our murder stats. As I write,
Baltimore had 296 murder cases involving
300+ persons and 559 shootings. The number
has since continued to grow.
It's a scary world we live in. The real
unfortunate part of this story it's been like this
my entire life. I've witnessed a violent Balti-
more since the 1970's. It's just now with so-
cial media and #RIP hashtags we can see the
volume of deaths. Black death was rarely a 6
o'clock news headline; our media images were
normally mugshots and perp walks. Grief was
an isolated personal family experience. 40
years have created great grandchildren of kill-
ers and the murdered. Generations cursed and
too numb to change. It's time to stop blaming.
